A poem about the elderly

March, 2018

Look in their eyes, what do you see?

Just an inconvenience that has to pee?

Maybe you see dollar signs hanging from a tree?

Whatever it be, look deeper to see

There’s so much more than pee

Memories and advice to give to thee

A life filled with hopes and dreams that were already seen

If you look past the wrinkles I can guarantee

You will find so much more than an old nobody

They’ve been where you’ve been and made it through with glee

They weren’t always the way you see

They once were so much like thee

So take some advice from me

See past the wrinkles and pee

Pull up a chair and listen with glee

Cause the wisdom sitting before thee is quickly fading
